Latin name: Agaricus bisporus
General
The white mushroom is the best-known edible mushroom and is grown the whole year round. It is cultivated in growing rooms where the temperature and humidity are adjusted to create the optimum climate. This enables these mushrooms to be grown all year round.
The mushrooms are picked by hand and immediately packed in the packaging in which they are sold. This preserves the white colour as much as possible.
Description
White mushrooms are available in different sizes: giant, medium (cup) and button mushrooms.
Storage and shelf life
Store white mushrooms in the vegetable drawer of your refrigerator. White mushrooms keep best when stored at a temperature of between 4° and 7°C. They will then keep for at least three days.
Flavour and use
It is important to clean white mushrooms before use. Never wash white mushrooms in water, but brush with a small brush or a piece of kitchen paper. This prevents the mushrooms from absorbing water, which spoils the flavour.
The white mushroom is extremely versatile and can be used in many dishes. You can sauté, bake, braise and deep-fry them, for example. Sautéed mushrooms are delicious when added to salads or pasta.
